I think the act of giving birth would of been enough, I can't speak from experience but its painful right?

I can't speak from experience either, but I have friends and family members that can and have. Some have said it's the most painful thing they've ever done...

Its an honest fear, I never didn't get it.

I could understand not feeling it if the baby had a premature birth.

And the babies can't actually cry until the doctor(or whoever else delivers the baby) clears it lungs and trachea of the mucus from the womb. Usually done by sucking it through the nose then slapping the baby's rear while upside down(Yes, there is a reason for that).
